Tarragon (Artemisia dracunculus)
I discovered this plant in 2020 and had to do some additional research since it wasn't so popular on the local market. I was also confused by the names at some point as many were referring to it as Mexican mint or Mexican marigold. But I did get to clarify and prove their very slight difference. One plant can actually substitute the other.
Also known as estragon, tarragon is a species of perennial herb in the sunflower family that has many impressive health benefits. Good for diabetics as it has the potential to reduce blood sugar, and I must say it also adds a great taste to that tea! So who needs sugar anyway? Also use tarragon to reduce inflammation and pain, improve sleep, appetite and heart health, not forgetting that it can be added to a variety of foods whether you use fresh or dried tarragon aka Mexican mint as a substitute!
Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum)
I discovered cardamom for the first time in 2012 in Barinas, Venezuela. I never had a chance to see a plant but the seeds were an everyday thing. some point after it was introduced to me by the son of a shaman who often kept seeds in his mouth as a way to maintain good aura and clean breathe. I tried a few times and still do when I feel like biting on some cardamom. Let's talk about the tea!
Cardamom tea has long been used as a digestive aid to soothe stomach ailments including gas and bloating. Used also to treat intestinal worms, gastrointestinal disorders, for body detoxification, Improved blood circulation, alleviates joint pain, cures cough and cold. Crushed cardamom seeds have anti-inflammatory properties that soothe irritated stomach muscles and remove bad breath. Some other benefits are help with nausea, acid reflux, anxiety, weight loss, Urinary tract infection, and it also has a history of being used to enhance sex drive with its aphrodisiac properties, especially green cardamom.
Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus)
When I did my thesis in 2005, lemon grass was one of the plants on which I did a deep research.
Today, thanks to this research, I can show someone the difference between lemongrass and citronella. Even though they may be referred to as the same plants, they are actually cousins. Lemongrass is the plant for tea and citronella is the plant for oil. Citronella grows wild and lemongrass is usually planted in the herb garden.
Read the benefits that this so popular, so necessary herb adds to this tea.
Lemongrass tea is claimed to increase metabolism and aid weight loss. Drinking lemongrass tea on a daily basis may help you shed that unhealthy belly fat. Lemongrass is also used for treating digestive tract spasms, stomach ache, high blood pressure, convulsions, pain, vomiting, cough, achy joints (rheumatism), fever, the common cold, and exhaustion. It is also used to kill germs and as a mild astringent.
To make this infusion, lemongrass should form the majority of the base (about 3/4 or 75%): immerse in a pot of boiling water. Add another 20% of the tarragon and 5% cardamom for a perfect blend with a balanced taste and aroma plus all the benefits.
