If you grew up in Dominica, born in the 80's/ 90's era, you probably must have heard someone say " Plahteh good for eyes"....But have you ever tried it before? I keep making mention of my grandfather as one of my first teachers of natural medicine which is a fact and hence the reason why today I am still convinced that there is no better way than the natural way of healing. I remember him using the plant for his eyes .There are many uses and health benefits associated with Plantain , also known as Broadleaf Plantain , Greater Plantain , Scientific Name: Plantago Major L. , Llanten in spanish. A perennial plant of the Plantain Family - Plantiginaceae. Not the plantain that we cook and eat. Although you can actually eat young leaves of the plantain herb as a salad. This is one of the plants I did research on for my thesis on "Wild plants with medicinal properties" in Barinas, Venezuela, 2005, Where the people also had a broad knowledge of it's uses. But as a Native Dominican or somebody living in Dominica ,have you ever heard about the old way of using plantain to treat eye disorders? Not for a severe case such as a puncture , but for cataract, conjunctivitis, glaucoma, irritations, red eyes ,and minor injuries?
Bear witness to this true revelation illustrated below as you continue reading.Watch how an Infusion prepared from Plantain leaf can really sooth a red eye with it's anti inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, and can lead to a much speedier recovery once used correctly. No more than a week should pass before you'd start noticing a difference. One small plant did it in exactly seven days. Probably the same sized plant as the photo at the top. Back in august- September plantain was somewhat hard to find; However these useful perennials surely return to heal us.
The preparation method used to treat the affected eye was cold plantain liquid prepared by just like a tea. Using 1 leaf per cup of water (250ml), allowing it to get cold and then Applying 3 drops into the eye three times a day, for 7 days. The result was great! There are different ways you can do it, such as preparing the tea How to make tea , allowing it to get cold then use an eye wash before going to bed at nights. Never boil or cook plantain as it loses its medicinal properties when over heated. Please don't forget that we're not speaking about plantain; the one similar to bananas.
Now take a look at the pictures below to see how the affected eye cleared up after using plantain eye drops. Prepared at home!.
